March BOE Financial Letter?
by yknot ini received an email from a sister-undercover -apostate saying someone had posted on her anti-jw group that there was a boe dated march 1, 2008 about local kh financial accounts and the wts.. my fading doesn't always let me log-on much and i couldn't find anything under "boe letter" with last month search tool.
has this been discussed?
i stopped by the kh today and checked the board and we had nothing posted (not really expecting to see it posted either).. here is the cut/paste of her email to me:.

Got a reply back last night......
Here is a message we sent to the producer who used our footage in his YouTube videos:
We prefer that you not use any footage from KNOCKING in your videos. This is our policy for anyone who uses our footage without permission. We have sent "cease and desist" letters to both JWs and non-JWs alike. The principle is about protecting the work of independent filmmakers and public television, which has to survive in a commercial media landscape overpowered by corporate giants. We hope you understand. We also hope you will respect our hard work and not take pieces of it to illustrate your own videos. Our footage was shot at great effort and expense. Whether you like KNOCKING or not, it should be respected as one attempt among hopefully many to tell the complex story of Jehovah's Witnesses. Rather than take our footage, we encourage you and others to shoot your own footage and tell your own stories. The more documentaries that exist on a given subject the better. This is what makes outlets like YouTube so great. Anyone can be a filmmaker. Just please use your own work. The KNOCKING footage is copyright protected and we will ask YouTube to remove it if it continues to be posted.

I think the biggest issue is just the inconvenience of having to re do everything on the traffic side of this. Obviously if no one was visiting it wouldn't be a big deal to just edit and make a new video. As far as the fair use I was thinking that could be an avenue too....I don't think there is a statute for asking, just depends on the producers mood at the time ya know?

Yea Nathen and Layla that would be the easiest. I think the issue is that editing the clip would require new addresses, new linking, time editing the clip etc.. Granted it would be much easier and convenient to all parties involved to do it this way. I was just giving an idea on doing it with out having to edit and change things.

I got a jesus question
by lancelink inwith the memorial season behind now, there is a question i have that in over 30 years as a jw i never got a solid answer.
jesus died for our sins; he was the perfect sacrifice, etc, etc.
i always heard how tough it must have been for god to watch his only begotten son die the way he did.

Eliveleth I do not mean this disrespectfully but how do you even know I believe in the bible? If I don't then all your arguments are useless. Anyways I was simply point out the obvious fallacy in the B.C. teaching and C.E. teachings. Your "Made in God's image" is a bit overstated as well. If we were created in God's image in the Christian sense it was as a perfect being and not imperfect. Strong emotions did not come in to play until imperfection hit according to the bible. Adam and Eve felt shame after eating the fruit because they were naked. Then Cain killed Abel in anger which is implied as being sin it's self (Genesis 3:6,7). I have a belief but I also believe that authors stretched a lot of things to explain the unexplainable. It's much easier to say, "oh God did it", or make God some human like being then it is to actually get to the bottom and think things out.

Leos just be sure to think if there was a notice when you entered the Kingdom Hall that filming was taking place on that day. Usually film crews will put a notice on the front door. IT does have to be visible though, so if they say they put one up but it was in some ridiculous spot that half the people would have to go out of their way to find you have a case.

DT you should be fine emailing them back...if not I could email for you. Of course if someone here emailed for you they would need the original carbon copy of the email sent to you. I am guessing that they are who they say they are, but I am sure an agreement could be made. Also Leos I would think you could just email them threating legal action if your face is not blurred out. The worst case is they tell you they posted signs on the door which gave consent.
OK I emailed from the info page asking about it. Hopefully I will get a reply soon.

Yes Layla I realize it is an authentic copyright violation....but if the clips were to stay up with the violation (which would be much easier for V) the only way to do it would be to make some sort of negative media mark about it.
